I.V. and General Sedation Services
Pasadena Dental Care offers anesthesia services to help patients access the care they need in relaxed comfort. These services are crucial for overcoming the barriers and obstacles common in children and adults with special needs or complicated medical challenges that make it difficult to receive essential dental care.

Benefits of Intravenous and General Sedation

Our anesthesia services are available in intravenous (I.V.) and general sedation options that go beyond the common methods of mild sedation implemented for the management of pain and discomfort necessary for performing dental work.

The patient is put to sleep while dental care is administered.

These methods make it easier for dental staff to provide the care necessary.

Ideal for treating patients who require complex dental procedures including tooth extraction, root canal, and a variety of endodontic and periodontal treatments.

Common Mild Sedation Options

Even though these methods are usually administered for invasive dental procedures, they do not always address the concerns of dental patients who are already feeling nervous or anxious about a visit to the dentist.
-
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas”
-
Local anesthetic injection at site of dental work to be performed
-
Topical numbing ointment applied to gums and teeth

Our Board Certified Anesthesiologist

Dr. David Wyndhamsmith is an M.D. physician and our board-certified in-house anesthesiologist. He will assess the medical history of the patient and decide on the safest and most effective form of anesthesia that meets the patient’s particular needs at the time of the dental visit.
During Your Visit
Dr. Wyndhamsmith will remain in the room throughout the course of the dental appointment. His responsibilities include:

Administering the anesthesia

Closely monitoring the patient’s vital signs

Respond to any emergency situations that might arise during treatment

Manage post-procedure recovery to help the patient wake up slowly and comfortably, and minimize the risks of any side effects.

Positive Patient Experience
We want our patients to reach successful dental health outcomes without pain or discomfort and that may require the use of anesthesia during treatment. This fosters a more positive patient experience by significantly reducing trauma, especially for children and adults wrestling with dental anxiety and phobia.
